In the sleepy village of Wesleyville, Pennsylvania, but just a mile
from the shores of Lake Erie, there is a legend about a building where terror knows no bounds.
One story tells of how it was built on an ancient Indian burial mound, grounds where
once the proud Erie Nation wandered in their quest for spiritual communion. It is said that the spirits are angry at the intrusion
on sacred ground and take their vengeance on all who trespass.
Another tale is told of renown visitor General Anthony Wayne, who visited and camped at the site. One wonders at
what he saw and experienced that night that gave him the nickname, “Mad” Anthony Wayne…
Yet another story was spread that the building site is on the same grounds as
the home of an old lady who was vilified by the locals. She was known as the “Witch of Wesleyville,” who kept
communion with the evil spirits. People spoke of the vortex she created in late October each year that brought all the evil
of Erie County into one place at one time, where ghostly sounds and strange lights were seen all over town.
Whatever legend is true, we may never know.
What we do know is that
there is a building in Wesleyville at the corner of Shannon and Station Roads that is open in late October to all visitors
who wish to see for themselves -
It is called the “Halls
of Fear”…
